The Best Treatment Options That Reverse Sun-Damaged Skin

It is not unusual to love being outdoors. However, spending a large chunk of your time outdoors could damage your skin in the long run, especially when you aren’t consistent in protecting yourself. Did you know that about 80% of visible aging is due to regular exposure to the sun? If you are seeing signs of sun damage on your skin, such as coarse, leathery skin, deep wrinkles, or skin discoloration, here are a few treatment tips to help you reverse the signs.

  1. Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is typically done to remove acne, fine lines, scarring and fix other skin irregularities. Most dermatologists and some plastic surgeons are qualified to perform dermabrasions. This treatment removes the top layer of your skin either manually or with a machine.

Dermabrasion is one of the best options for treating sun-damaged skin, although there are several other good treatment plans out there. Most dermatologists will recommend microdermabrasion. This method uses tiny particles through a suction tube to remove damaged skin and stimulate new skin growth.

  1. Chemical peels

Chemical peels treat wrinkles and freckles, which are signs of sun-damaged skin. This method can be done on the hands, neck, or face and works by applying a chemical solution to the affected area. The solution then causes the skin to blister and peel off, with the new skin looking fresher and less wrinkled.

Remember to wear sunscreen after a chemical peel, as your skin becomes extremely sensitive to the sun for a brief period. Ensure that you speak to your dermatologist before getting a chemical peel, especially if you have a history of developing cold sores or scarring. You may also be required to take medications like glycolic acid to prepare your skin for the session. Your doctor may also prescribe an antiviral medication for your scars and cold sores.

Treatment for chemical peels lasts between three to seven days, especially if it’s mild. However, it may take between a week or two for a full recovery for medium to deep peeling. Your doctor will determine the number of times you will need to have a chemical peel depending on your condition, so keep this in mind.

  1. Laser rejuvenation

Laser treatments like Picoway Resolve are used to revitalize your skin by injecting collagen into the skin. Laser treatments target skin irregularities caused by sun damage such as scars, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and wrinkles. This treatment method works on all skins and leaves your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. It takes six to eight weeks for patients to see their desired results. Your doctor will determine how many treatments you will need based on the severity of your condition.

It is entirely possible to reverse your skin’s sun damage with these treatment options. There are more options worth checking out as well. These solutions might not clear all the damage, but you can reverse some of its symptoms. Remember to always use sunscreen and stay hydrated when spending excessive amounts of time outdoors.
