How to Keep the Weight Off After a Diet

Share Post:

Losing weight is a long-haul; it takes a lot of effort, a lot of determination and commitment. But for so many people, the diet is quickly forgotten and the weight piles straight back on again – how frustrating!

As our bodies have evolved to be prepared for famines, we tend to put weight on much more easily than we lose it. This was ideal for our ancestors who weren’t sure where the next meal was coming from, but not so great for us with our full fridges.

So, how can you keep the weight off once you have reached your goal? Are you destined to yo-yo diet for the rest of your life?

Get Into Good Habits

One of the main problems with the diets we follow is that they are all aimed towards short term weight loss rather than long term maintenance. However, many diets do come with some good habits that you should continue. For example, drinking a glass of water before eating a meal is a great way to stop you overeating, or using smaller plates can trick you into feeling fuller even if you are really eating less.

There are lots of other tips like these at https://gettrimhere.com/weight-loss-fast-and-how-to-do-it-right.

Take Every Opportunity to Exercise

In our sedentary world of cars and couches, it is unbelievably easy to go days without any proper exercise. So, even if you do go to the gym for a workout, you might not get any other forms of exercise throughout the week. This is a real shame because there are actually lots of opportunities for you to get sneaky exercise in.

Take the stairs instead of going up in the lift, do squats while you brush your teeth, walk to the shops instead of driving – there are all kinds of ways that you can burn a few more calories in the day and build your muscles too. So, if you see an opportunity to get some more movement into your day – take it!

Keep Track of Your Weight

One of the reasons that people tend to pile on the weight after their diet is that they stop tracking how much they weigh. This is a mistake because it allows you to put on a lot of weight before you realise what is happening. If you want to stay at your current body weight, you should weigh yourself every day.

You will find that your weight fluctuates a little, maybe a few pounds up or down, and this is fine. However, if you notice a pattern forming over a few days, you should take the hint and go back to your good habits. The sooner you can get back on track, the easier it will be to return to your ideal weight.

Though we think of diets as an immediate cure, in reality, they are just the beginning of a new lifestyle. Now that you have reached your goal weight, you will still need to work hard to maintain it. And with these simple tricks, that shouldn’t be too difficult.
